A German revolution to frighten Madrid...
Despite losing a number of big names, Borussia Dortmund have managed to reinvent themselves and have enough about them to trouble Real Madrid. Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City), Mats Hummels (Bayern Munich) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United), decided to move on but Thomas Tuchel has worked wonders in the transfer market, introducing eight new faces.
The new revolution has ensured that Dortmund have taken the 2016/17 season by storm already. Four consecutive victories in all competitions and 20 goals scored.
The team wants to dominate with the ball and close down all spaces, ensuring a lack of mobility for their opponents. Another key aspect to Tuchel's method is the versatility of his players and the variability of the system he employs. But who are the real 'weapons' at his disposal?
Ousmane Dembele
The 19-year-old Frenchman has shone in the Bundesliga and is a real favourite at Signal Iduna Park. In just 25 games in Ligue 1, Dembele became one of the stars of the French championship thanks to the twelve goals and five assists. His stats this season - 6 games, 4 goals and an assist has been music to Tuchel's ears.
He is a left-footed player but can play on both sides utilising his speed and dribbling ability.
Guerreiro's new position
In just seven games, Raphael Guerreiro has won over the German support. His distribution and influence on the game have benefited from a new position. For Lorient and Portugal the player has been out wide, however, Tuchel prefers him to work inside and through the middle.
"Guerreiro is too good and too versatile to play only in one position," said Tuchel. In his last four games he has managed to score three goals and give three assists in 262 minutes.
The return of the prodigal son
Mario Gotze left to play for Bayern Munich in 2013 but after failing to meet their expectations, at age 24, he has begun a new era with his former team.Tuchel has got the German midfielder to shine again just as he did years ago, and in recent games he's been an important man for the team. His stats aren't fantastic, but his impact on the team is growing.
The star: Aubameyang
The striker is Dortmund's best weapon and following Marco Reus' loss of form, he has emerged as the star of Dortmund in this campaign. He has five goals in four Bundesliga - the top scorer - and his change of pace and speed on the counter are the strengths of a player who can plays centre forward or on the wings.
