Nesta lauds youthful Milan as Montella leads new chapter

AC Milan great Alessandro Nesta believes the club are benefiting from their emphasis in youth as the Serie A giants look to emerge from Juventus' shadow. Milan suffered a steady downward spiral after winning the Scudetto in 2010-11, taking a back seat to five-time defending champions Juventus, but with Vincenzo Montella at the helm and a strong core of home-grown talent, the 18-time Serie A winners are dreaming again. Spearheaded by teenage sensation goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, seen as the heir to Gianluigi Buffon in the Italian national team, 18-year-old midfielder Manuel Locatelli and Chelsea target Alessio Romagnoli, renewed optimism abounds among the Rossoneri. And Nesta - a pillar of Milan's two-time Champions League winning vintage coached by Carlo Ancelotti - is pleased with what he is seeing at San Siro. "They started very well. They have changed the manager again but they are doing extremely well," Nesta told Omnisport. "Unlike recent yea...

Pep Guardiola to return to the Camp Nou

Five years after his departure from Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, is set for another outing at the Camp Nou for an event marking the 25th anniversary of the Blaugrana's first European Cup in 1992. The current Manchester City coach will be back on the pitch alongside his former colleagues Jose Mari Bakero, Ronald Koeman and Hristo Stoichkov, in an exhibition game against a Benfica team from that era. The celebrations will be held on Saturday at 22:00 CET, with the Catalan club also announcing that there will be an audiovisual show to recall moments of the anniversary. The final that is regarded as the springboard for Los Cules' European success took place on May 20, 1992, against Sampdoria at Wembley Stadium and was decided by Koeman's late goal in extra-time.

Turkish torture as Man United lose again

M anchester United's woes deepened as stunning goals by Moussa Sow and Jeremain Lens gave Fenerbahce a 2-1 Europa League win on Thursday that left Jose Mourinho's side facing a battle to reach the knockout stages. Without a victory in four Premier League games, United desperately needed a morale-lifting result in Turkey but were undone by a brilliant second-minute overhead kick from Sow and a superb curling set piece by Lens before Wayne Rooney smashed home a consolation. While Mourinho's men are third in Group A, Zenit St Petersburg have made it look easy in Group D and reached the knockout stages with two games to spare after a 2-1 win over Irish side Dundalk maintained their perfect record. Athletic Bilbao's Aritz Aduriz became the first player to score five times in a Europa League match, his haul comprising three penalties in a 5-3 triumph over Racing Genk in Group F. Anderlecht were also on the goal trail in Group C as Nicolae Stanciu and Lukasz Teod...
