Even after netting a goal just 37 minutes into his Champions League debut against Legia Warsaw, Marco Asensio told reporters after the match that he is willing to be patient in his quest for more playing time.
The 20-year-old stroked home from a Cristiano Ronaldo assist to put Real Madrid 3-1 up going into the half-time break.
It was a goal that continued a strong string of debuts for the youngster this season, as he also scored in his first competitive appearance for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup as well as his first LaLiga outing for Los Blancos.
"There are many world-class players who have been at Real Madrid for a long time, so I have to be patient and make the most of the opportunities I'm given," Asensio said in his post-match comments.
"It's new for me to not play as much, but the coach spoke to me and told me to be calm."
The Real Mallorca youth product acknowledged that Zinedine Zidane's hyper-attacking starting lineup may have left the team exposed at the back.
"Zidane fielded a very attack-minded team today, so it's normal that the opposition caught us out at times," he said.
"We're not pleased about failing to keep a clean sheet, but I'm sure we will improve on that front."The Spanish international found the net in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, beat Geronimo Rulli at Estadio Anoeta in LaLiga opener and kept the tradition alive on Tuesday versus the Polish team.
Instead of rocketing the ball with his instep after a good pass from Cristiano Ronaldo, the 20-year-old opted to rely on placement to beat keeper Arkadiusz Malarz, catching the stopper completely off balance.
This goal is the fourth in only nine official appearances this season for the Mallorca native, who is the lone member of Los Blancos squad to have scored in all competitions.
The Copa del Rey is Asensios next challenge.
