Achange in mentality is what happened when Zinedine Zidane took over from Rafa Benitez at Real Madrid, according to Fabrica graduate and current Fiorentina man Borja Valero.
The midfielder admitted that the fact that the French boss is a former player changes the relationship between player and coach, and is sure to play a role in his overall success as a coach thus far.
"Zidane made his players believe they were the best in the world," Valero said. "There was a change in mentality and way of approaching games.
"By making them believe they were the best in the world, the players then went out and proved that on the pitch."
Valero also had words of encouragement for another coach and former player at Los Blancos, his ex-youth teammate Guti, who is currently in charge of the U19 setup (Juvenil A).
"Guti is unique- you either love him or you hate him," he said. "I made a lot of people mad at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu by coming out and defending him."
