Manchester United squad the world's most expensive

It will come as no surprise after another summer of heavy spending including the world record transfer of Paul Pogba from Juventus, that Manchester United have assembled the most expensive ever squad in the history of football.
The CIES (Football Observatory) have compiled a list of the spending and costs of each squad in Europe's top five leagues - England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France.
Manchester United's squad costs a whopping 718 million euros, which is an increase of 110m euros from last season after the summer investments on Pogba, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Real Madrid are second on the list at 634m euros despite a summer of moderately modest spending which saw the return of Alvaro Morata from his spell at Juventus - a move which cost Los Blancos 30m euros.United's rivals Manchester City are ranked third with a total spend of 611m euros while there is a notable drop down to Barcelona in fourth - the Catalans have spent 485m euros on their current squad, just 4m euros more than fifth placed Chelsea.
The next Spanish club on the list are Atletico Madrid in 18th (199m euros), with Valencia (165m euros), Sevilla (119m euros) and Villarreal (106m euros) the only other LaLiga squads to exceed 100 million euros on transfer fees for their squads.
Real Sociedad are the seventh-highest ranked Spanish side with only 51 million euros spent on their squad, with Espanyol next with 39m euros - showing the disparity between the top Spanish clubs spend and the rest.
In total, LaLiga clubs have spent 1.9 billion euros on their combined squads, way behind the 4.4bn euros spent by English Premier League clubs and only fractionally more than the 1,939 spent by Italian Serie A sides.
