Lionel Messi is favourite to win the Ballon d'Or, according to MARCA.com users who have voted in massive numbers.
Over 100,000 votes have been registered in just one day to the question 'Who will win the Ballon d'Or?'
The momentum is undoubtedly with the Barcelona striker, who has garnered 58 percent of the vote, despite the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo won both the Champions League and Euro 2016.
However, the Portuguese star's poor start to the season sees him sit in second place with 26.6 percent of the vote and well behind in third is Antoine Griezmann, on 3.24 percent.
In addition, Messi sits atop the parallel vote running on MARCA English's website, leading Ronaldo by a mere 100 or so votes, ahead of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.
They are joined by Toni Kroos, Robert Lewandowski, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.
Antoine Griezmann headed the second set of names released, along with teammate Diego Godin, Gonzalo Higuain, Paulo Dybala and Kevin De Bruyne.
Unsurprisingly, Messi was confirmed in the third round of names, along with Riyad Mahrez, Hugo Lloris, Thomas Muller, and Real Madrid star Luka Modric.
Gettng towards the back of the alphabet, Pepe, Paul Pogba, Neymar, Manuel Neuer, and Dmitri Payet were added to the list.
Finally; Jamie Vardy, Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, Sergio Ramos, and Euro 2016 winning goalkeeper Rui Patricio were given the nod.
A final date for the delivery of the award is not yet known but the ceremony will be held before the end of the year and not early next, as in the six previous editions.
This new format, unveiled on September 20 without the partnership of governing body FIFA, eliminates the intermediate stage of the announcement of the three finalists.
