On Sunday morning, Real Madrid's Luka Modric underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee for an extraction of a patellar chondral fragment of posttraumatic origin.
The operation was carried out by doctors Manuel Laws and Mikel Aramberri from Medical Services Sanitas Real Madrid, and under the supervision of doctor Jesus Olmo.
It's expected that the midfielder will be out of action for about a month although it may be possible to accelerate the recovery process depending how the player responds over the coming days to the surgery.
An operation that was short in duration and minimally invasive will give Zinedine Zidane hope that one of his most influential players is back sooner rather than later.
The next time Papakouli Diop is around the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, he may want to keep his head down after almost single-handedly blowing Real Madrid's midfield to pieces.
In Los Blancos' game at Espanyol a fortnight ago, the Senegal international went in hard on Casemiro, a tough-tackler himself, and cracked the Brazilian's left fibula bone in his leg.
Just 12 minutes after that incident, Diop lunged for Luka Modric while the playmaker was in possession and caught his knee for a foul but no booking.Modric played through the pain in Catalunya as well as the subsequent matches with Las Palmas and Borussia Dortmund, overcoming the injury to make the full 90 minutes on both occasions.
Now undergoing surgery on the damaged knee cartilage, this particular injury isn't even the Croatian's first such problem having suffered a knee issue in April 2015.
