Arbeloa linked with early West Ham exit

Just three appearances into his West Ham United career and Alvaro Arbeloa is reportedly set to be axed by coach Slaven Bilic. None of the Spaniard's outings have gone to plan; a close shave with League Two Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup, a 3-0 home defeat to Southampton, and a disappointing 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough. As such, Croatian tactician Bilic is ready to cut his losses with the veteran and move him on in January, according to The Sun. The Hammers have been poor for large parts of the campaign so far and it appears that extensive work will take place in the January transfer window, with Simone Zaza, Gokhan Tore, and Diafra Sakho also heading for the exit door.
Arbeloa only joined West Ham on deadline day of the summer window, signing a one-year contract after leaving Real Madrid. In Florentino Perez's address to the club assembly on Sunday morning, the president paid tribute to the Spanish full-back, with the hall reciprocating by offering the first standing ovation of the speech. "I would like to mention Alvaro Arbeloa for his courage and bravery" Perez told the club delegates. "He has left after many years, but this will always be his home. He left after 12 years at Real with the affection of us all, he's one player perfectly symbolising how you can get to the top with humility and sacrifice." Also praised by the president were Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as ex-coach Rafa Benitez. "[Ronaldo] is the myth of Real Madrid," Perez stated, "[and Benitez] showed his love for the club."
