Barcelona are reportedly interested in Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo, following Aleix Vidal's failure to work his way into Luis Enrique's plans, but Valencia coach Cesare Prandelli is not thinking about such a move. Asked if he would give the green light to a potential Camp Nou switch, the Italian coach insisted that it was not the time to discuss the matter. "At this moment in time we're not contemplating that [rumour]," he told the media at his weekly press conference. "We have great players, but I don't speak about the transfer market."
The interest in the 22-year-old was also said to be unsurprising, with Prandelli explaining that the best players always attract attention from the top clubs. "Cancelo is an important, young, and great player who can play in a variety of positions," he said. "So [the interest in him] is normal."
As well as discussing the transfer speculation, Los Che's new coach also looked ahead to his side's LaLiga clash with Celta Vigo, praising the Galician side's intensity and organisation. That match at Estadio Balaidos kicks off at 16:15 CET on Sunday afternoon.Cancelo joined Valencia in 2015 after an initial loan spell during the 2014/15 season and has gone on to become one of the league's best full-backs. "I do not know my future, but I'm comfortable here [at Valencia]," said Cancelo when asked by the club's official radio station about a potential move to the Catalans.
In fact, the Ches are facing Barcelona precisely this weekend, so the player wil be playing against his potential future club. "I hope that people will support us as always and stick with us," he continued. "We know it's a difficult game, but it is not impossible to win. "Last year we were in a difficult spell and then went on to win at the Nou Camp."
After Sunday's 2-1 victory over Sporting de Gijon, Cesare Prandelli's first game in charge, Cancelo praised the Italian. "Prandelli is a very humble and hardworking coach," he stated. "We now understand that we have to defend and attack as a team, I think we will be very happy under him."
