There is nothing in the world of Spanish football that Vicente del Bosquehasn't already lived, and after his time as both director of the academy and first team coach for Real Madrid, it seems like his exit from the club in 2003 wasn't on the best of terms. More specifically, the club had no part in the matter, but a few individuals, who remained unnamed, did speed up Del Bosque's departure despite winning the LaLiga crown in his final season at the club. "I have nothing to reproach Real Madrid, but sometimes people let you down," Del Bosque told EFE Noticias. Asked about how Julen Lopetegui has been doing so far, the ex-La Roja man preferred to keep quiet on his successor. "I'll be a good ex," he said, believing that his silence would do the new coach more good than any comment he could make. Finally, one of the most important matches in Spanish football is coming up in the Madrid derby, but again Del Bosque gave his opinion at his stoic best. "It'll be a very even match," he concluded.
Former Spanish international coach Vicente Del Bosque has admitted the treatment of defender Gerard Pique in the national team was unfair, but insists there were no hard feelings between Catalan and non-Catalan players and is fine with the defender's choice. The Barcelona star, who has 84 international caps to date, announced his decision to retire from international duty after the 2018 World Cup in what will be his fifth and final major international tournament. The 29-year-old has came under criticism from the Spanish press in the last round of international fixtures after wrongly accused of cutting off the Spanish flag from his sleeves, whilst fans are also said to be against his supposed pro-Catalan independence stance. "I got into his skin after he announced his retirement," Del Bosque said. "How Pique was treated was unfair. "He thinks about the future and I think it's okay to do that and I think he does not feel so displeased in the team. "During my time, I did not see differences between Catalan players and non-Catalan players, but there are always people that are impossible to convince." Meanwhile, Del Bosque, who helped La Roja to a World Cup and European Championship, has paid tribute to the legacy left behind by Luis Aragones. The 65-year-old also took time to praise Julen Lopetegui, whose side currently remain unbeaten in the World Cup qualifiers. "The four matches played in the World Cup qualifications so far have been very good," he continued. "We received a good legacy from Luis Aragones and I think we have not left a bad inheritance now."
