Atletico Madrid saw off the challenge of Rostov on Tuesday, with Antoine Griezmann scoring two goals to end his four-match goal drought.
The result qualifies Los Rojiblancos for the last 16, but the Frenchman hopes to go through as group winners, ahead of Bayern Munich.
"We are at the top, but there are two matches left and we'll fight to finish first," he told beIN Sports after the final whistle.
The Atletico No.7 also spoke of how difficult the match was and the fact that Rostov's deep back line proved tough to overcome.
"Rostov is a team that sit back and defend really well with all their players united," he said.
"That made the match difficult for us.
"The most important thing was to secure the three points and we are, therefore, happy."
A trip to former club Real Sociedad is next on Griezmann's schedule, with that match taking place on Saturday.
