Ostracised at Barcelona, right-back Aleix Vidal has reached out and contacted Sevilla sporting director Monchi in hopes of returning to his former club, according to Radio MARCA Sevilla. Though the Andalusians interests in this upcoming transfer market is more geared towards a forward and a centre-back, they are always on the look-out for slight improvements to their squad and the club do already know Vidal quite well. The relationship between Luis Enrique and the player has deteriorated rapidly, and Vidal has barely even been included in match squads, with B-team players getting minutes in his stead. In fact, the Catalan has only played in two matches all season for Barcelona, meaning a January exit is almost assured. Nonetheless, even with his good relationship with Monchi and most of the squad, Vidal might not be needed anymore, as Mariano has made the role his own and has continued to impress under coach Jorge Sampaoli.Aleix Vidal's future at Barcelona is up in the air, with the Catalan club already looking at the possibility of letting him depart the Camp Nou and of signing a replacement in January.
Since joining the Blaugrana in the summer of 2015 - and debuting in January 2016, once their ban on registering players was over - the right-back has struggled to convince Luis Enrique and those in the club's hierarchy fear that he will never recover the form that convinced them to sign him from Sevilla. Sporting director Robert Fernandez has, therefore, been evaluating alternatives. Currently, there are five players piquing Barcelona's interest, namely Valencia's Joao Cancelo, Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich, Shakhtar Donetsk's Darijo Srna, Arsenal's Hector Bellerin and Juventus' Stephan Lichtsteiner. To date, Vidal has played just 16 matches for Barcelona and may struggle to add many more appearances to that tally before the decisive month of January.
