Atletico Madrid squad is summed up perfectly by one simple statistic, which may also be a concerning one: this season, no team in LaLiga has used less players in domestic action than the capital club, with just 20 men in total taking to the field for Diego Simeone's side. 'Cholo' is not a big fan of rotation, a characteristic that has been evident throughout his time at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, which explains why there are seldom many changes to his starting line-ups. However, one interesting aside is that the Argentine tactician has in fact afforded playing time to almost every available player so far. The only outfield exception to that rule is Italian winger Alessio Cerci, although that isn't entirely unexpected. Although he is currently recovering from a knee injury, he has struggled to have any kind of impact since his move to Spain, spending two loan spells back in Serie A.
Miguel Moya or Andre Moreira have yet to feature for the Rojiblancos either but given that both men are goalkeepers this is no surprise whatsoever, and the only chance of either man featuring is through an injury or suspension to Jan Oblak. Against Osasuna on Sunday, the Slovenian will become the only Atletico player this season to have played every single minute of action because of an injury to Filipe Luis. Simeone's willingness to keep faith with largely the same group of players for each game in 2016/17 means that he is overseeing a squad running on very little rest. In fact, if Diego Godin (990 minutes), Juanfran (990 minutes), Stefan Savic (960 minutes) and Koke (954 minutes) feature in Pamplona, then they will join Oblak in breaking the 1,000 minute barrier this season. Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco, Gabi, Saul and Kevin Gameiro are all not far behind them either, emphasising how much a small group are being pushed.
However, that is in contrast to the other nine players in the squad, whose combined minutes total just 1,803 - ranging from 505 for Angel Correa to 34 for Thomas Partey. Diego Simeone oversaw his side's final training session before they travel to Pamplona, where they will take on Osasuna on Sunday afternoon. The wind and rain at Majadahonda took the decision out of the coaching staff's hands and they opted to carry out the session in the gym, due to their fears that injuries could have been incurred by training outside. Both Filipe Luis and Fernando Torres have picked up injuries recently but Simeone's preparations haven't been hampered too much. Based on how he lined the side up during training on Friday, he will likely utilise a starting line-up against Osasuna of Oblak, Juanfran, Gimenez, Godin, Lucas, Gabi, Tiago or Saul, Koke, Correa, Griezmann and Correa.
