Lucas Vazquez never fails

As happened last season, Lucas Vazquez started 2016/17 with few options to be a key player for Real Madrid, but the youngster never fails to impress when given the opportunity. Even with BBC, James Rodriguez, Isco, Luka Modric, Marco Asensio and Alvaro Morata all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order, Lucas has always maintained a humility and dignity and just let his football do the talking. He convinced Rafa Benitez and is now doing the same with Zinedine Zidane. In fact, along with Morata, he has played the most matches of any Real player this season: 15 of 17 across four competitions. With Morata injured for the game against Sporting Gijon, Lucas will become the most used member of the playing staff, indicating his importance to the team. Of the matches in which he has been involved, only five have been as a starter whilst he has been called from the bench 10 times - the most of any player this season.
Renewed until 2021, the player has become an example on and off the field, hence Zidane's continued commitment to him.The Frenchman, who has completed his first training session in two weeks, has been out since the 3-3 Champions League draw against Legia Warsaw earlier this month. Ahead of the Madrid derby, the French coach hopes to have the team as close to full fitness as possible so as to make the right decisions in terms of his lineup ahead of Saturday night's clash. With the 28-year-old not having completed any comprehensive training in the last few weeks, the Los Blancos coach's first choice could in fact be Lucas Vazquez. Choosing the Spaniard would permit the European Champions to get more intensity in the midfield and on the wings, while keeping an attack-minded approach on the pitch.
