Madrid derby win calls BBC into question

Whilst Zinedine Zidane has been hailed for his tactical ingenuity in the wake of Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Saturday, the result also leaves many questions unanswered, including whether BBC might not now be the coach's preferred striking formation. Los Blancos put in one of their best attacking displays of the season with the French tactician opting to deploy a 4-4-1-1 formation. Cristiano Ronaldo effectively operated as a lone striker and Isco started as the No.10. Under the more traditional 4-3-3 formation to accommodate BBC upfront, Los Blancos have experienced much success including claiming the 10th and 11th Champions League titles in their last three seasons. Interestingly, the club's hierarchy are concerned that with Benzema omitted, it could be detrimental to the club's marketability and would like the trio to be swiftly reinstated in an effort to protect their stars. Zidane, though, has moved to deny rumours that the result is a sign of things to come. "Beating Atletico does not guarantee anything. Everyone can say what they want," he told reporters. "It's not that BBC is a non-negotiable - it's just that they are the best, more because of the history of what they have been able to achieve."
Indeed, the club have sought to seal the future of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale's contracts but Benzema has yet to renew a deal that ends in 2019. Not playing in a fixture against one of their greatest rivals give rise to suggestions that his Real career might be over, and it appears that the same are not without foundation.Morata may be out for the next few weeks but those most in the know, MARCA English readers, are united in their desire for Isco to beat the striker to a place in Real Madrid's line-up. The ex-Malaga star was picked to start against Atletico Madrid on the weekend by Zinedine Zidane, responding with an excellent display just behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the attacking midfielder's role. Alas, Karim Benzema's return to fitness for Los Blancos' trip to Sporting CP in midweek threatens Isco's involvement as the Frenchman has been part of the much-heralded BBC frontline for a number of years. Nevertheless, it's the Spaniard favoured by fans after over 4,000 votes gave a conclusive 88 percent backing to Isco over Benzema. There's still time to vote, however, which you can do below.
