Milan still keen on Musacchio

During the transfer market last summer, the failed attempt by AC Milan to sign Villarreal's Mateo Musacchio was a consistently developing story, and one that seems to have more chapters as the Italians have not forgotten about the defender. An agreement was supposedly reached with Musacchio's agent Marcelo Lombilla, but Villareal stood firm on a 30 million euro price tag, and as result the deal fell through. However, the situation could change again in December when Milan, once a giant in Italian football, are scheduled to introduce new Chinese owners who are reportedly willing to add a 100m euro short-term transfer budget to bolster the squad. So far, the Rossoneri have enjoyed a good start to the season and coach Vincenzo Montella has introduced his style well, yet his side are far from the finished article, and will likely struggle to compete with the likes of Juventus for the title. Cesc Fabregas and Milan Badelj are other players allegedly being courted, but Musacchio remains at the forefront of the club's plans to strengthen the defence.Musacchio's move to AC Milan is off after Villarreal rejected a new and revised offer from the Rossoneri on Tuesday. The 25-year-old defender has had an agreement in principle to join Milan since the start of July, but Villarreal had become increasingly frustrated by the continuous delays in getting the deal completed.
The Diavolo were hoping to have received a huge financial investment from the impending Chinese takeover, but because it has not yet been completed, they have been unable to stump up the 22 million euros that the Yellow Submarines have requested, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Adriano Galliani met with Villarreal president Fernando Roig on Tuesday to try and make some clear inroads in the deal, but the Spanish club were not interested in Milan's proposal consisting of an initial loan, then an option to make it permanent for 30m euros. Villarreal are only keen to sell immediately, putting an end to Milan's conquest of the Argentinian. The Rossoneri will likely make a move for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, who has been put on the market but has has a number of English clubs, including Arsenal, chasing him, or long-term target Alvaro Arbeloa.
