Henrikh Mkhitaryan will stop at nothing to nail down a place in Manchester United's starting line-up following a lacklustre start to the Armenian international midfielder's career at Old Trafford. Mkhitaryan was expected to play a major role in the club's bid to recapture its glory days after joining in the close season following a successful three-year stint with German side Borussia Dortmund. "It is true that I get little time on the field but I am not going to give in," Mkhitaryan told reporters after being appointed as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations children's agency (UNICEF) in Armenia.
The 27-year-old, however, has yet to convince manager Jose Mourinho and has been restricted to a bit-part role for the team, making five of his six appearances this season from the bench. "I went a long way to play in Manchester United, so nothing will prevent me from achieving my dream. I will not retreat, I will find the strength to reach my goal," Mkhitaryan added. United, who are sixth in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Liverpool after 11 games, host fourth-placed Arsenal on Nov. 19. Armenia's UNICEF office confirmed the news via a statement released through the national football association's website. "Henrikh will support UNICEF in advocating children's right to education, sports and play and use his voice to bring awareness to the rights of the most marginalised children in the country," read the statement.
The former Borussia Dortmund player admitted he was saddened by some of the situations that children around the world find themselves in and was keen to help provide a solution. "It's sad to know that not all children have the same opportunity to attend school and have access to quality early learning and education," said Mkhitaryan at the ceremony for his appointment. "All children should be able to enjoy the opportunity to reach their full potential and become productive citizens." "We are delighted to have him as a UNICEF ambassador in Armenia. He is passionate about children and helping them receive a healthy lifestyle," said Armenian UNICEF representative Tanja Radocaj. "He has a strong commitment to our mission. Education helps to reduce inequality and eradicate poverty, while supporting the expansion of more inclusive societies. "We are delighted to be united in order to defend the rights of children when it comes to their education and inclusion."
