Real Madrid make the most of big money signings

One of the biggest risks of modern football is the much-lamented flop signing, as tens of millions of euros are thrown at a player who simply doesn't come near to hitting his expectations. Real Madrid are certainly vulnerable to this, and have had plenty in their time among football's elite, but recently Los Blancos have secured an excellent standard from their largest investments. Take Cristiano Ronaldo, for instance, costing 96 million euros back in 2009, the winger has notched 371 goals along with a LaLiga, two Champions Leagues, two Copa del Reys, a Club World Cup, two UEFA Super Cups, and a Supercopa de Espana.Signed up until 2021, Real are set to eke out more value from that fee for years to come, and their other major signings of late are also being tied down to long-term extensions on the back of good performances.
Gareth Bale was a world record signing back in the day and continues to cost 10m euros per season, during which he's fast becoming a Ballon d'Or contender and every bit as integral as Ronaldo.Other players on this list include 24m euro signing Sergio Ramos, arrived from Sevilla in 2005 and current club captain, Karim Benzema and his 166 goals for Madrid, and the midfield duo of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric with the German's 25m euro fee a veritable steal back in 2014. Kroos costs the club around 4m euros annually, and centre-back Pepe just 3.3m euros to tally up a sizeable bill for Los Blancos, but a very solid return nonetheless.
