Roberto Carlos: Marcelo has no limits

With Marcelo continuing to impress for Real Madrid in 2016/17, countryman Roberto Carlos has highlighted the fact that the left-back has no limits concerning his role in the team, one in which he is a leader. Much of Los Blancos' success can be traced back to the work-rate and attacking verve of the player, something that Roberto Carlos was renowned for in his time at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. "Marcelo is the number one and has no limits," he said. "Playing in the same position as mine and talking about him as one of the best is, for me, a reason to be joyful and proud. "I'm happy to have enjoyed six or seven months on the pitch with him." Aside from Marcelo's seniority within the side, he has also become Real's talisman, for they've not lost with him in-situ. "When he plays Real are not losing, so the people are happy," Roberto Carlos continued. Asked about the rumours of Liverpool's Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho signing for Real, the veteran was a little more coy. "The decision on signings has to be discussed with the people at the club, and what I see is that we have a very strong team," he concluded.
Having escaped severe punishment for a crashing challenge on Leganes' Omar Ramos on Sunday, Real Madrid defender Marcelo rang up the winger to wish him well in his recovery. Suffering an ankle sprain, Ramos was forced off whilst his side were awarded a free-kick for the tackle that failed to yield a card from the referee. It was a sad moment for the game as a spectacle as their battle on Los Blancos' left flank was one of the tighter plotlines unfolding in Real's eventual 3-0 victory.
