Simeone: No excuses after Real Sociedad shock

Atletico Madrid fell to a 2-0 defeat at Estadio Anoeta on Saturday afternoon, but Diego Simeone did not seek to blame the disappointing result on the hard-fought Champions League match his side played against Rostov on Tuesday. The Argentine asserted that there were no excuses for the loss to Real Sociedad, while also admitting that both of the referee's penalty calls were correct."We never look for excuses," he said when asked if the midweek effort had been a factor. "Both of the penalties were correctly awarded. The referee judged the action well."
Although Simeone criticised his players' second-half performance, he also pointed out that the result had plenty to do with the impressive play of their in-form hosts. "Our defeat was a result of Real [Sociedad]'s good play," he explained. "We played well in the first-half and had good opportunities to score, such as the Kevin Gameiro chance, but in the second-half Real Sociedad started better and from the first penalty onwards we couldn't find a way to equalise."
Simeone also lamented the fact that his side has struggled on the road, with this the fourth LaLiga away match out of six in which Los Colchoneros have failed to win. "It's true, the away matches are proving difficult for us," he admitted.Next up for Los Rojiblancos is the capital city derby against Real Madrid, which will be played at home following next week's international break.
