Sevilla goal scorer, Vitolo, admits he was very pleased with his side's first half performance, but disappointed they couldn't take something from the game against Barcelona at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday night. The Spanish striker opened the scoring on 15 minutes as the hosts dominated before the interval, however Lionel Messi equalised two minutes before the break and Luis Suarez completed the turnaround just after the hour mark. "I am happy with the first half," Vitolo said. "Sevilla put in a great showing, with high pressing, and we had opportunities to score. "We lost, but we played well."
Vitolo accepted that, in Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, Barcelona are always dangerous. "In the first half, we were superior," he reiterated. "But the three Barcelona have up front, they can score at any moment, and they opened the game up with the goal just before half-time."Lionel Messi's equaliser before eventually losing to a Luis Suarez winner, and boss Jorge Sampaoli insists the defeat was down to his side's lack of efficiency in front of goal.
The Argentine's squad went toe-to-toe with the Catalan giants, and created plenty of chances, especially in the first half, though in the end matters did not go their way. "When you dominate a match and are not ruthless against Barcelona, you are left with the feeling that you did a lot well, but couldn't build on the advantage", said the ex-Chile boss. "In the second half, the game favoured them. "At the end we went searching for the equaliser, but couldn't find what we wanted." Sampaoli did praise his side's showing in the first minutes. "It was our best first half because of the great rival we were facing," he said. "I will assess the defeat and hopefully we can keep growing."
