Nissan Stadium prepares to host Real Madrid

Final preparations are currently underway at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama as the venue prepares to play to Real Madrid in the Club World Cup on Thursday.
The capital club are eyeing a fourth intercontinental title in their history and will commence their campaign with a semi-final appearance against Mexican side Club America at the iconic stadium.
The 19-year-old arena will also host the final of the competition as well as the third-place play-off, a double-header on December 18.
But as it currently stands, the condition of the pitch is far from ideal with frosty conditions hampering efforts to improve the state of the field.
Nevertheless, the upcoming competition marks its final appearance in Japan before making its way to the United Arab Emirates from 2017 onwards.
The venue, which has a capacity of 72,327 spectators, famously hosted the final of the 2002 World Cup between Brazil and Germany, in which the Selecao claimed a 2-0 victory thanks to a Ronaldo Nazario brace.
In addition, the stadium will be the centrepiece of the 2019 Rugby World Cup as well as the Tokyo 2020 World Cup.
But before all of that, Zidane's men have the opportunity to create history once again in Nissan Stadium, an arena which Spanish teams are familiar with.
Los Blancos, most notably, claimed the 2002 Intercontinental Cup at the Yokohama Stadium, defeating Paraguayan side Olimpia 2-0 on that day.
Meanwhile, the stadium was the site at which Barcelona won the 2011 and 2015 Club World Cups against Santos and River Plate respectively.
