Atletico Madrid players appear to have taken positively to the naming of their new stadium as the Estadio Wanda-Metroplitano, with Fernando Torres particularly impressed with the merging of the club's tradition with modern day sponsorship designed to catapult the Rojiblancos into Europe's elite.
Set to leave long-term home the Estadio Vicente Calderon this summer for the former Olympic stadium, the club revealed the new name, together with a modified club badge, at an event in the Spanish capital on Friday morning.
Asked about the changes at the official launch, Atleti striker Torres admitted the name stirred memories of tales told by his grandfather about the Rojiblancos' first ever ground, the Estadio Metropolitano de Madrid.
"This last name is very exciting, it reminds me of when my grandfather spoke of the Metropolitan, he cannot have a better name, and in these times it is important to go hand in hand with someone like Wanda," he said.
"You have to enjoy it, first enjoy the Calderon...and maybe someday I can tell my grandfather that I played in the Metropolitan."
Atletico captain, Gabi, meanwhile, told attendees that this was the start of an immensely exciting period for the club.
"It's exciting to see the growth of the club, I think we're certainly going to be a giant club," he said.
"At the same time, with this shield and this name, part of our history has been recovered."
Recent academy graduate, Koke, however, revealed that although he was impressed by the steps taken by the team on and off the pitch, the manner of change also brought a tinge of sadness.
"I am sad and happy," he told supporters. "In 24 years I have only known one shield and a stadium of Atletico Madrid, but at the same time I am also very happy because we have taken a very big step."
Also present at the event was head coach Diego Simeone, whose focus has immediately turned to Monday night's game against Villarreal after what he described as a 'special day'.
"It's a special day, with a lot of nostalgia and a lot of excitement," he concluded. "Now we need to win on Monday."
