Benito Floro: Zidane knew within a week what he had to do at Real Madrid

Former Real Madrid coach Benito Floro has been left extremely impressed withZinedine Zidane's early work at his former club, insisting it was evident from the start how big an impact he would have.
Although his only previous coaching experience came with the club's youth side, it didn't deter the Frenchman from winning an astonishing three major trophies in his first year on the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu bench.
"Zidane was a terrific footballer," said Floro. "When he was playing, he was a coach's dream, though when he took over at Madrid, many said that he was only there because of who he was.
"When he said at his presentation that he wanted to increase the pressure and environment around the squad, I thought: 'This is a man who knows what he wants'.
"Real Madrid couldn't and shouldn't be a counter-attacking side. That shouldn't be the basis of their style of play. That would have been a mistake, a Madridista knows this."
It isn't just the Real Madrid boss who has impressed the 64-year-old, who now makes his living in Costa Rica, as the man across the capital city divide is also performing well in Floro's opinion.
"He is a very good coach in every single facet of the game," continued the ex-Villarreal tactician. "The physical preparation of his teams is excellent.
"How can a team like that reach two Champions League finals? Thanks to good preparation and a good coach."
