Atletico Madrid and Diego Costa could have enjoyed a reunion during last summer's transfer market, but no deal came to fruition.
Instead, Los Rojiblancos signed Kevin Gameiro from Sevilla, but his seven-goal start to the season has been outshone by Costa's 14 goals during the first half of Chelsea's Premier League campaign.
"I had the possibility to go to Atletico, because of a few things," the Spain international striker revealed, according to The Mirror.
"It wasn't because of Chelsea, because here there is a lot of love with the supporters and with the people, so I'm very happy.
"There was one thing I wanted to change for family reasons, but it wasn't to be and I continue happy here."
The 28-year-old also explained that the arrival of Antonio Conte was a key factor in his staying at Stamford Bridge.
"It was important too that the coach, from the very first minute, said he counted on me," he said.
With Costa's goals, Chelsea sit top of the table and the player is on course for a second Premier League medal since his 2014 Atletico exit.
