The Madrid derby's double agents

In the storied history of the Madrid derby, many players have swapped clubs and attempted to try their luck with the other side of the divide. From Monchin Triana, who started his career at Atletico in 1919 and spent nine years there before crossing the shores of the Manzanares, to Garcia Calvo, Esnaider, Paco Llorente and the famous case of Ramon Grosso, who spent 17 years at Los Blancos, save for a loan spell at Atletico in order to help them avoid relegation.

However, in the long list of players who have swapped the white for the red and white and vice versa, there are only a select few who have known the joy of scoring for both clubs in the fixture.

Prudencio Sánchez, 'Pruden'

He played for Atletico Madrid in the 1940/41 season when his 33 goals helped them to the league title, ending the campaign as top scorer.In 1943, he made the move to Real Madrid, where he stayed until 1948.

Pérez Payá

The forward joined Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad in 1950 and was part of a legendary attack alongside Escudero, Juncosa, Barek and Carlsson.After three years with the Rojiblancos, he crossed the capital to join Real, where he won two league titles and two European Cups before retiring in 1957.

Hugo Sánchez

The popular Mexican arrived at Atletico for the 1981/82 season and scored a whopping 82 goals in 152 appearances. His love affair with the Estadio Vicente Calderfon faithful lasted until the 1984/85 campaign when he made the controversial move to Real. He remained with Los Blancos until 1992, ending a successful career there with 208 goals in just 283 games.

Bernd Schuster

Schuster arrived on Spanish shores in 1980, signing for Barcelona, where he enjoyed eight successful seasons, before joining Real Madrid upon the expiration of his contract. Two seasons were then spent at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and another three with Atletico Madrid, which signalled the end of his time in LaLiga.

Santiago Solari

The Argentine midfielder arrived at the Calderon in 1999 from River Plate and spent 18 months with Atletico but was unable to save them from relegation. The pain of the drop was doubled by Solari leaving them for their great rivals, where he remained until 2006.
